BlueHour is an interactive media art project created for the 2018 Hongik University Digital Media Design Graduation Exhibition. Through animation, television screens, and changing light, the installation invites visitors to move through night, pause within the blue hour, and step toward a new day.

Concept: A Chance to Reboot
Have you ever wished you could start again, as simply as turning a computer off and back on? We found an echo of that wish in the blue hour: the brief interval between night and day, or day and night, when the world is washed in blue. It is a threshold where one day ends and another begins.
If nature has a blue hour, what might its counterpart be in a virtual world? We explored this question through interactive animation, imagining a moment in which our own days could be restarted. After the turmoil of the night, BlueHour offers a wish for the visitor: may tomorrow reboot into a better day.
Soyo: A Companion Through the Story
The central character, Soyo (소요), walks alongside the visitor as the story unfolds. The name draws on two meanings of the same Korean sound: 騷擾, meaning turmoil or unrest, and 逍遙, meaning to wander freely. The character embodies this movement from agitation toward ease, accompanying the visitor through the blue hour.
The Visitor Experience
Night
As visitors walk into the installation, they encounter three animated visions of night across the television screens. These sequences express the pressures, distractions, and fears of everyday life.
Blue Hour
When a visitor sits on the chair, all television screens switch to the blue-hour sequence, and the room itself turns blue. This shared transition across image and space creates a pause between the night visitors have passed through and the day ahead.
Day
As visitors leave the installation, they encounter three animated visions of day across the screens. These sequences imagine a better life, bringing the journey toward renewal and a fresh beginning.
Light & Space
LED lighting changes color with the animation, transforming the atmosphere of the entire installation. The shift extends the moving images beyond the television screens, allowing visitors to experience the transition through the surrounding space as well as the story.
