Zero Gravity | Acoustic Concert Planning & Performance

Event Direction · Concept Development · Collaborative Production · Live Performance

I conceived and led Zero Gravity (무중력), an acoustic concert at Café Lobby near Hongik University, working with friends to bring the event to life and performing as part of the band myself. My role spanned overall planning, concept development, coordination, and event delivery, connecting the creative vision with the practical work of staging a live performance.

Concept & Event

At the café's invitation, we organized a concert for fellow students as the end of the year and semester approached. I developed the concept of “Zero Gravity” around planets, the solar system, outer space, and a secluded winter night. The aim was to create a warm, reflective atmosphere suited to Café Lobby, combining acoustic music with moments of direct interaction with the audience.

The College of Art and Design band performed original songs and covers in the café's courtyard. The concert took place on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 7 p.m. and ran for approximately two hours, including a 10–20-minute intermission.

Collaborative Production

  • Overall planning, coordination & performance: Iro Lim
  • Design & staging: Minji Yu (유민지)
  • On-site accounting: Jinhyeok Ban (반진혁)
  • Live music: College of Art and Design band

Visual Identity & Promotion

We drew on the band's existing reputation among students for spontaneous, guerrilla-style performances and a hip image to produce promotional stickers and lighters. These were distributed through friends and placed on campus and in nearby cafés. Free-coffee vouchers and drink discounts were also arranged as audience prizes during the concert.

Posters translated the visual concept into promotional materials for campus and social media, with campus posting beginning on November 5. By placing materials along routes students used regularly, we increased the event's visibility. The stickers and lighters were fully distributed within just three days, reflecting students' interest in opportunities to gather and enjoy live music.

Café Partnership & Documentation

In collaboration with the owner of Café Lobby, we developed a special drink named “Zero Gravity” to extend the concert concept into the café experience. Both the café and the band promoted the event through their social media channels.

We also partnered with the student filmmaking group Saebyeogui Hwajangsil (새벽의 화장실) to photograph and film the performance. The collaboration was designed to create material for later social media promotion, giving visibility to both the band and the filmmaking group.

Outcome

The “Zero Gravity” drink proved popular with students attending the concert. The café owner, who had provided the venue free of charge, unexpectedly contributed 10% of that day's sales to support the event. The project brought together independent planning, collaboration with friends, a local café partnership, and my own participation as a performer.
